Giving Spotlight – Children’s International Summer Villages

In this month’s Giving Spotlight Series, we’re highlighting the decades of involvement that TRICORD’s Nancy White has had with Children’s International Summer Villages (CISV). CISV is a global organization founded in 1950 to foster intercultural understanding, cooperation, and friendship by hosting a variety of international camps and exchanges for kids and young adults from 70+ countries around the world, as well as sponsoring projects on the local level. CISV’s centerpiece program is the Children’s Village which brings together delegations of 11-year-olds (2 boys, 2 girls, plus an adult leader) from 10-12 countries for a month of fun and learning in a summer camp setting.

CISV also sponsors a number of other programs focused on different age levels. There is even have a 40+ alumni group called “Dinosaurs of CISV” that holds several events each year.

Unfortunately, the pandemic has curtailed in-person travel programs in 2020 and 2021, so CISV has expanded its educational program, which focuses on 4 core content areas: Diversity, Human Rights, Conflict Resolution, and Sustainable Development, through a number of innovative online activities.

CISV USA has chapters around the country, including Austin/San Antonio and Dallas/Fort Worth. We have several well-known alumni, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg was one of the early founders of our NYC chapter and actively supported the organization until her death.

TRICORD is proud and honored to support Nancy in these endeavors. Learn more about CISV at https://cisv.org/
